I was in a shopping centre a few weeks back and a little boy obviously had his pocket money and was looking to waste it on some candy. He said to his father, "Look Dad this one has a competition". The father went on to tell his son the promoters only do that to trick people into spending a little more money at the chance of winning and no one ever wins.
I was in a dilemma. Did I speak up and say um excuse me people do win these prizes, they are legitimate competitions run to increase sales defintely, but genuine nonetheless and yes ordinary people, such as myself do win them, each and every day.
I said nothing.
But that's why so many compers win so often, because the 'general public', although they are as exposed to compettiions as we 'compers' are, they just dont enter them. Whether it be from laziness, fear or principle I don't know, but I do know that if you're not in it, you sure as heck can't win it.
